Just like Van Gogh, I’m sketching and studying all exercises and sheets from Charles Bargue’s books Exercises au fusain and Cours de dessin (Drawing Course).
I made a complete study of how Van Gogh learned how to draw.
His resources and steps were basically:
- Copy multiple times all pages from the book Charles Bargue Exercices au fusain
- Complete multiple times the book Charles Bargue Drawing Course
- Studies figure drawing from life
- Studies human anatomy for artists
Those steps seem simple, but for a whole year, he dedicated all of his time, full-time doing those over and over again.
I want to replicate all his steps, but unfortunately, I cannot pour all my time for a whole year, I wish I could. So I’m doing it in a very different rhythm than that of Van Gogh’s, but at least I’ll try to follow his steps.
